Our Glass Types
See below for more information on our high-quality glass options.
Low E Glass
Low E (Low Emissivity) glass is specially designed to reduce heat transfer while still allowing natural light into your space. By reflecting heat back into your home in winter and blocking it out during the summer, Low E glass helps maintain a comfortable indoor temperature year-round, improving energy efficiency and lowering your heating and cooling costs. Low E glass also reduces UV radiation preventing damage such as fading of furnishings. Reduced sun glare is an additional benefit of Low E glass, allowing you to enjoy your views, while maintaining indoor comfort.
Low E glass has been coated in a thin, metallic layer to improve the solar control and thermal insulation. The coating is virtually invisible to the eye and therefore Low E glass will not affect the amount of natural light, however Low E glass may appear to have a slight blue tint compared to clear glass. The blue appearance is minimal and may only be noticed in certain lighting conditions such as in the shade.
Low E glass is a cost-effective option to increase the energy efficiency in your home. Low E glass can also be used in combination with double glazing to provide even greater insulation and energy efficiency than either option alone.
Double Glazed Glass
Double glazed glass consists of two panes of glass joined by a spacer, leaving a gap in between which is sealed with either air or a gas. This space acts as an insulator and provides the benefits double glazing is known for. At Window & Door Supplies, our double glazed windows and doors typically feature a gap of 8-10mm, depending on product.
Double glazing offers a plethora of benefits including thermal control, noise reduction and reduced condensation. Double glazing is suitable for all Australian climates and is effective at blocking cold or heat from entering the home and maintaining a comfortable living environment. This increases the energy efficiency of your home and can help save on energy bills. Double glazing also helps to absorb outside noise, reducing sound and helping to create a peaceful home.
We offer double glazing in most of our windows and doors. Double glazing can also be used in combination with our other glass type such as Low E, Tinted or Obscure glass to provide the perfect solution for any space.
Grey Tint Glass
Our grey tinted glass offers a sleek contemporary look while providing privacy and protection from the sun. Grey tint is a great option for large exterior windows in home or offices that get a lot of sunlight. The Australian sun can be intense, but with grey tint glass, you can reduce unwanted heat and glare, ensuring your home remains comfortable while maintaining ample light throughout the day.
Grey tinted glass reduces sun glare and light from the sun, while still providing great visibility from inside. From the outside, grey tint provides privacy with limited view to the interior depending on lighting conditions. Tinted glass also reduces a significant amount of UV radiation which can help protect furnishings from fading due to the sun.
Grey Tint can provide both aesthetic appeal and additional benefits such as privacy and sun protection when used effectively. This option can also be used in double glazing, combining the benefits of these glass types.
Obscure Glass
If privacy is a priority, obscure glass is the solution. Obscure glass refers to glass that is either textured, treated or coated to decrease or blur visibility. Obscure glass is ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms and spaces where you want to provide light and airflow while protecting your privacy.
At Window & Door Supplies, we offer two options for obscure glass: Acid Etched, or Satinlite.
Satinlite obscure glass features small, close together grooves or lines that create a fine crossed texture. Satinlite obscure glass is good at hiding fingerprints due to its texture and rough appearance.
Acid etched glass is created by applying a special acidic solution to the surface of the glass, which gently etches the material to produce a smooth, frosted finish that obscures vision while allowing natural light to pass through.
Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more layers of glass together with a durable interlayer, creating a strong, impact-resistant surface. This type of glass is commonly used for added security and soundproofing. It’s ideal for areas where safety is a concern, as it holds together even when broken, reducing the risk of injury.
Window & Door Supplies can provide a range of laminated glass options including Hush Lam, which is specifically designed for noise reduction. Hush Lam can provide significant sound insulation, often performing better than double glazing for this purpose. If noise reduction is a priority, speak to our team to help find the best option for you.
Toughened Glass
Toughened glass is heat-treated to increase its strength, making it up to five times stronger than regular glass. It’s ideal for windows in high-traffic areas or places where durability and safety are important. If the glass does break, it shatters into small, less dangerous pieces, reducing the risk of injury.
Toughened glass is a good option for splashbacks, shower screens, balustrades, windows and doors. Toughened glass provides thermal breakage resistance and can withstand large changes in heat, making it suitable for areas near ovens, stoves or fires.
